To award myself this badge I completed a coastal cycle ride organised by the charity, British Heart Foundation (BHF). It was a few years back and they don't run this particular one anymore. They have other charity cycle rides. See their website for details.
At the time I hadn't cycled a long distance for ages but was encouraged to join by some friends who were doing it.
The ride was 32 miles and most of it was along the lovely north east Kent coast passing through Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate.
I didn't get a chance to prepare and just pumped the tyres of my bicycle up on the morning of the ride. There were three stages to the route. At times I really felt the pace and my thighs were burning but being part of a group and an official event kept me going. After about 5 hours, including a cheeky stop at a pub, I completed the whole route and got a medal to mark my achievement.
I went on to cycle at the annual event a couple of more time before they stopped running it, but it got me back into cycling. I also awarded myself the Whirly 'Coastal Cycle Trail' badge from the Sporty section of the Badge Wall. I've added it to my Pinterest page to display and share with family and friends.
